The short version

To decide whether we can fund your case, we need to know about you, your injury and your claim — and that means we collect sensitive information, including information about your medical treatment.

  • We use it to evaluate and service your funding request, and for the legal and business purposes described below.
  • We share it with your attorney and their staff, with our service providers, and with parties who help us finance or evaluate transactions.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • You can ask us what we hold, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. See Your California privacy rights.

This summary is for convenience only. The full policy below controls.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy is issued by Green Light Legal Funding, LLC ("Green Light," "we," "us"), a consumer legal funding company located at 269 S. Beverly Drive #451, Beverly Hills, California 90212.

It applies to personal information we collect from consumers who visit our website, submit a funding request, enter into a funding agreement with us, or otherwise communicate with us. It also applies to information we receive about a consumer from that consumer's attorney or law firm.

If you are an attorney, paralegal or other professional contact, this policy applies to the business contact information and case information you provide to us.

2. Information we collect

In the twelve months before the effective date of this policy, and on an ongoing basis, we collect the following categories of personal information.

CategoryExamples of what this includes
Identifiers Name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license or other government identification number, IP address.
Financial information Bank account and routing details used to send funds, payment history, existing advances or liens against your claim, and other obligations that affect your recovery.
Health and medical information The nature and extent of your injuries, treatment received, providers seen, medical records and bills, and medical liens — to the extent you or your attorney provide them.
Claim and legal information Case type, date and circumstances of the incident, police and incident reports, court filings, insurer and policy information, the identity of your attorney and firm, settlement demands and offers, and the status and expected value of your claim.
Protected classifications Age, and any other protected characteristic that appears in medical or case records we receive. We do not request these to make funding decisions.
Commercial information Funding requested and provided, contract terms, payoff amounts, and records of the transactions between us.
Internet and device activity Pages viewed, referring URL, browser and device type, approximate location derived from IP address, cookie and similar identifiers set by our measurement tools, and interactions with our website and emails.
Audio and electronic records Recordings or notes of calls with you or your attorney, emails, text messages and submitted forms.
Inferences Our internal assessment of the strength, value and risk of your claim, drawn from the information above.

You are not required to give us any of this. But we cannot evaluate a funding request without enough information to assess the claim, so declining to provide it generally means we cannot fund you.

3. Sensitive personal information

Some of what we collect is sensitive personal information under California law, including your Social Security number, driver's license number, financial account information together with any access credentials, and information about your health, medical condition and treatment.

We collect and use sensitive personal information only for purposes that are necessary to perform the service you asked us for and that are permitted under California law — evaluating your claim, deciding whether and how much to fund, documenting and servicing the funding agreement, preventing fraud, verifying identity, and complying with our legal obligations.

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we do not use it for advertising. Because our use is limited to permitted purposes, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information does not apply to it — but you may still contact us with questions about how it is handled.

4. Where we get it

5. How we use it

We do not use your information to make decisions about you through automated processing without human review.

We do not disclose your personal information to anyone else without your permission, except as required by law.

7. Sale and sharing

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. We have not done so in the twelve months preceding the effective date of this policy. We do not sell or share the personal information of consumers we know to be under 16.

8. How long we keep it

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide funding, service the agreement and obtain repayment, and afterward for the periods required by the California Consumer Legal Funding Act, our tax and accounting obligations, and applicable statutes of limitation.

In practice this means we retain funding files for the period required by applicable law and our tax and recordkeeping obligations after a case closes, and retain declined applications for a shorter period. When information is no longer needed we delete it or render it unreadable.

9. Your California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights.

Shine the Light. California Civil Code section 1798.83 permits residents to request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not make such disclosures.

Exercising these rights will not affect your funding agreement, your case, or your relationship with your attorney.

10. How to exercise your rights

Submit a request by emailing privacy@greenlightlegalfunding.com or calling 310-303-1858. Please tell us which right you are exercising and give us enough detail to locate your file.

Verification. Before we act on a request to know, delete or correct, we will verify your identity by matching the information in your request against the information in our records, and we may ask for additional proof for requests involving sensitive information. We cannot honor a request we cannot verify.

Authorized agents. You may use an authorized agent, including your attorney. We will ask for written permission signed by you, and we may ask you to verify your own identity directly with us.

Timing. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. If we need more time we will tell you why and take up to 45 additional days. There is no fee unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, in which case we will tell you before proceeding.

11. Cookies and tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the site to function and to understand how it is used, including how visitors arrive and which pages they read.

We use Google Tag Manager on this site to deploy measurement tags. Tags delivered through it may include Google Analytics, which uses cookies and similar identifiers to tell us how visitors find and use the site. These tools receive information such as your IP address, the pages you view, and general details about your device and browser.

We will name any additional analytics or advertising tools here before deploying them, and we will update this policy if we begin using measurement data for advertising purposes.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though parts of the site may stop working properly. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal where your browser transmits it.

12. Calls, texts and email

When you submit a funding request or give us your number, you authorize us to contact you at that number about your request and your account, including by telephone, text message and email. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop receiving texts, and use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email to stop receiving marketing.

We will still send you communications necessary to service an active funding agreement.

Because we communicate with your attorney's office about your case, please tell us if you want communications directed only to you or only to your attorney.

13. How we protect information

We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use and disclosure. These include encrypted transmission of documents, access controls limiting case files to staff who need them, and vendor agreements requiring confidentiality.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to us. Please do not send documents containing your Social Security number or medical records to us through unsecured email or text; ask us for a secure upload link instead.

14. Children

Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone under 18. Where a claim involves a minor, we work with the minor's attorney and legal guardian, and any information about the minor is provided by them. If you believe a minor has provided us information directly, contact us and we will delete it.

15. Other sites and services

Our site may link to other websites, including your attorney's site or court and agency resources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Read their policies before providing information to them.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top and post the revised version here. If the changes are material, we will provide additional notice, such as by email to consumers with active funding agreements. We review this policy at least once every twelve months.
